Today we spent the morning selling hand-painted art on the Champlain Heights Trail as part of our Art for Plants Fundraiser. Free the Fern member, Paola, also contributed some hand-made cloth bags, made from repurposed fabrics, for our sale.
As of today (May 15, 2021), we have successfully raised $700 for native planting! We shall use the funds to plant along 3 sites on the Champlain Heights Trail – adjacent to Kinross Creek Co-op, Cartier Place, and Alexander Laidlaw Co-op. Free the Fern volunteers have been working hard to clear all invasive English ivy and Himalayan blackberry from those sites. We will be ordering plants from Nat’s Nursery, a native plant grower and wholesaler in Langley, BC, for planting October, 2021.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our Art for Plant Fundraiser. I have enjoyed receiving photos of your art hung up at your homes (see some examples below).
