On a beautiful sunny Saturday, 18 volunteers came out for the last Free the Fern Invasive Pull before our summer break. We focused on removing small invasive weeds from the “Triangle” area of the Red Alder Trail, which will be the future site of our Native Food Forest. Small weeds included: common nipplewort, herb Robert, bitter dock, and more. We also tackled any regrowth of Himalayan blackberry in the area.
We were happy to welcome 4 international students from Japan who are studying at Langara College. The students practiced their English skills while learning about native and invasive plants.
Together, we succeeded in removing 5 green bins of invasive plants, for a total of 1,800 L removed! Great work everyone!
We hope everyone has a wonderful summer break! We will be back to our monthly invasive pull events in September.
