18 volunteers braved the rain and snow for our Invasive Pull today. 6 of the volunteers were joining us for the very first time. At 10am, we gathered at the beautiful Douglas Fir Teaching Garden. Free the Fern Executive Director, Grace Nombrado, along with co-lead, Chloe Lee-Fraizer, welcomed everyone. After introductions and a stretch, we headed down the Red Alder trail to our stewardship site, just east of the playground.
Thanks to everyone’s effort, we succeded in removing 1,080 L (3 large green bins) worth of invasive Himalayan blackberry and periwinkle! Everyone was so focused on the removal, that we kept working right until 11:40am. Then, we headed back up the trail for some nice hot chocolate, tea, and snacks.
Today, despite the cold weather, there was an especially warm energy from all the volunteers. We were so grateful to have each one of them join us: Anne, Ash, Chloe, Cole, Ellie, Erin, Gary, Grace, Haley, Inaru, Jan, Jeannine, Liam, Lynell, Mak, Meghna, Michelle, Rene, and Sylvia.
Thank you also to Park People, Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, and the Green Streets Program, who provides funding to make our stewardship events possible.
