Thanks to the support of a Neighbourhood Small Grant and the Kinross Creek Housing Co-op Social Committee, Free the Fern hosted two Lantern Making Workshops today, December 12, 2021.
30 participants, ranging in age from 4 to over 70 years old, attended the two workshops. Resident elf, Kiki Nombrado, was on hand to teach how to build a globe lantern (see instructions here). Participants inflated balloons and covered them in a variety of colourful tissue paper, glue, and maple leaves. Adults supported younger children and everyone showed great creativity in creating unique coloured lanterns.
Participants also enjoyed coffee, hot chocolate and cookies (dairy-free and gluten-free options were provided).
All in all it was a great day full of warmth and good cheer!
We look forward to seeing all the lanterns a-glow for our Winter Solstice Lantern Procession on December 21, 2021 from 6:30-7:30pm
