This week we began a project to clear an area behind Kinross Creek Co-op, adjacent to the back of an accessible unit. Over the course of many years the area had become engulfed by English Ivy, Himalayan Blackberry, and Lamium. With the help of several volunteers, we began the work of “rolling back the ivy carpet”. It was an amazingly successful method of removing the invasives, including the roots in a smooth, organized manor. After rolling the ivy, we cut out the roll with shears and piled the ivy for removal. Finally, we laid 4 wheelbarrows worth of leaf mulch over the bare soil to preserve moisture in the soil. We plan to plant native plants in this area this fall. Check out the photos of our progress!
