Today, Saturday, Oct 6, 2023, we ran a successful Invasive Pull on the Red Alder trail at the future site of our Native Food Forest. We had 16 volunteers out to help, ranging in age from 7 to 65+ years old. For 7 of our volunteers, it was their first invasive pull event with Free the Fern!
Together we were able to remove 1200 invasive plants (including Himalayan blackberry, common nipplewort, and herb Robert). Volunteers were also able to also help with clearing large rocks and woody branches from the area in preparation for our planting event on Oct 21. Wooden branches were positioned to create a fenced edge to our planting site and rocks were moved to create a path.
The site is mostly clear of invasive plants now and we look forward to receiving our order of 800 edible fruit/nut trees, berry bushes and ground cover for our food forest. Please sign up to attend our planting on our event page!
A special thank you to all our amazing volunteers: Annette, Antone, Barbara, Dimitri, Genesis, Genevieve, Grace, Jason, Jeannine, Joshua, Margaret, Martin, Max, Moira, Naomi, and Sam.
