Today it was all about the good vibes! 22 lovely participants gathered at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden for our monthly Invasive Pull. It was the first one since our summer break, and it felt so good to get outside again!
To get our bodies warmed up, we began with a welcome stretch.
4 candidates for City Council and Park Board were there to help (representing 4 local political parties):

Volunteering with us was also Sam & Mysty from Trash Talk, a local volunteer group who is working to remove garbage in East Vancouver. Check out their amazing work!
Together, we succeeded in clearing 720 L of invasive plants from our Pollinator Garden and the West Side of the Red Alder Trail, Champlain Heights Trail System.
Invasive plants included:
Common nipplewort, Herb Robert (“stinky Bob”), Himalayan blackberry, and English ivy.
We will be replanting native species in these areas at our Fall Planting on Oct 24.
One of our volunteer, Janet McDonald, also brought an amazing native seed bank that she created to share with us. Check it out!
