Today, Free the Fern Executive Director, Grace Nombrado, and Free the Fern board director, Joe Boyd, led a Weeding & Weaving Workshop at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden.
11 participants gathered in the garden to learn how to gather, prep, and weave ivy into a basket. After a land acknolwedgment & welcome, everyone headed up the Champlain Heights Trails to gather some fresh ivy for weaving.
Then, we returned to the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden to prep the ivy by removing all the leaves and roots.
Following which, Joe & Grace shared how to weave the green, flexible ivy “weavers” in and out of the woody ivy “stakes”
Everyone succeeded in creating a beautiful, original basket!
