Since forming Free the Fern in January 2021, we have been tracking our volunteer hours and invasives removed via a google form. So, I took a look at our totals today.
From January 15 to June 1, 2021, Free the Fern volunteers have spent 256.50 volunteer hours removing:
- 41,460 L of invasives
- which is equal to 165 city green bins (120L-360L)
- or 41 cubic metres of weeds
The types of invasives included (and on some days more than one type was removed):
- English Ivy (35%)
- Himalayan Blackberry (26%)
- Lamium (25%)
- Common Periwinkle (6%)
- Italium Arum (6%)
- Morning Glory (2%)
We have moved 64 wheelbarrows worth of leaf mulch
And planted 91 native plants along the Champlain heights Trail.
