On April 27, 2022, fellow environmental stewardship group, The Still Moon Art’s Society, who are based to the north of us in the East Vancouver neighbourhood of Renfrew, held a Beaver Pond(er)ing Lodging Celebration!
Over the past two months, volunteers with the Still Moon Art Society have been working on weaving a giant beaver sculpture out of willow and red osier dogwood branches. The beaver sits on the edge of Still Creek, adjacent to the Renfrew Skytrain station.
Thanks to the hard work of their volunteers, the big, beautiful beaver sculpture was complete and ready to be shown to the public!
For the event, everyone from the surrounding community was welcome to come out and enjoy fresh cooked sugar-coated beaver tail, construct a beaver puppet, listen to some great live music, and see the amazing beaver art sculpture in person!
It really has to be seen in person to be believed! The sheer size of the beaver and the artistic craftsmanship that went into it is is astonishing. From the carefully carved wooden teeth, pointy toes, and bright red tail – incredible! Now it just needs a name that would be fitting to it. Maybe a naming contest is in order?
Great job Still Moon Arts! You are a creative inspiration to us at Free the Fern.
