Ivy Weaving at the Sharing Farm

On Sat, Sept 13, Free the Fern Executive Director, Grace Nombrado, led an Ivy Weaving Workshop at The Sharing Farm in Richmond.

The Sharing Farm is a beautiful nonprofit has been managing a farm in Richmond since 2002. They offer educational workshops, donate food to the local food bank and other food programs, and run a market with fresh fruit and veggies for the community. They even have a volunteer crew who gathers flowers for making fresh and dried bouquets!

Arriving at the farm, Grace was welcomed by Jenna West, Programs and Communications Manager for the Farm. Jenna guided Grace to the beautiful outdoor space where the Ivy Weaving Workshp would be held. There were long wooden tables, beside a beauitful grape vine and tall blooming sunflowers.

12 participants gathered for the workshop. Jenna provided tea and fresh picked lemon cucumber, melon, and carrots for workshop participants.Together, they learned how to gather, prep, and weave ivy into a basket. Each participant ended up making a very beautiful and unique basket!

After the workshop, Jenna offered to guide Grace on a tour of the garden. Together, they walked passed rows of bright red strawberries, covered greenhouses full of tomatoes and cauliflower, and garden boxes bursting with a variety of colourful flowers.

Grace got to step inside the market, which sold fresh produce and flowers. Grace picked up some strawberries and grapes to take home!

Thank you to Jenna for the tour of the Sharing Farm. We enjoyed partnering with you to run a Weaving Workshop!
