Native Plant Sale 2026

What an amazing Native Plant Sale we had yesterday, on April 18, 2026!

The day before we had received a delivery of native flowers, ferns, and berries from NATS Nursery. We also had propagated a few of our own plants – fringecup, redwood sorrel, and Pacific bleeding heart. All together, we had 586 plants available for sale!

We had a variety of species available including:

Full Shade – Part Shade Tolerant

  • Woodland strawberry
  • Pacific bleeding heart
  • Western swordfern
  • Deer fern
  • Red columbine
  • Salmonberry
  • Redwood sorrel
  • Fringecup

Sun Tolerant

  • Douglas fir seedlings
  • Goldenrod
  • Common camas
  • Nodding onion
  • Douglas iris
  • Western blue iris

We also had 120 special embroidered flower bookmarks created by local artist Kiki Nombrado, 3-D printed owl flower pots created by board president, Erin Knock, and delicious baked goods made by a variety of community members.

Saturday turned out to be a bright sunny day. 10 volunteers gathered to help set-up tables, plants, craft items, and baked goods (donated by the community) for the sale at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden.

By the time sales started at 10am, there were already a dozen people gathered, eager to purchase some native plants.

It was wonderful to be able to connect with community members of all ages. There were teachers, who wished to add native plants to the school grounds. Local kids who were working together to plant a small native plant garden in our local trails. Local co-op members eager to beautify their complex gardens. Many others wished to support native bee habitat by planting native plants on their balconies or in their gardens.

For the first time, we offered a “Pay it Forward” option where people could gift a plant or receive a free plant. We were able to offer 20 free plants to community members who were helping to plant outside their own gardens and in the wider community.

By the end of our 2 hour sale – we had sold all but 4 of the plants and made a total of $2,577.18 profit (calculations done with the support of 8 year old volunteer, Westley)!

By the evening after the sale, we sold the remaining 4 plants and 53 more of the embroidered flower bookmarks. So, all totaled, we made $2941.18! Amazing!

Thank you to all the volunteers (Andrea, Barbara, Catherine, Connie G, Connie H, Erin, Grace, Jeannine, Kiki, Moira, Robin, Westley) and the community who helped make our Fernraiser such a success! We are also grateful to the Independent Grocery for donating $25 worth of baked goods and NATS nursery for waiving the delivery fee for the plants and gifting us a box of Douglas fir seedlings.

We look forward to having this annual sale again next April!
