What a wonderfully, sunny Invasive Pull we had today! 28 amazing volunteers (12 of them for the first time), gathered together at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden for our event.

After a welcome stretch at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden, we all donned our bright vests and gloves and headed south down the trail.

Free the Fern board director, Veronika, served as co-lead, overseeing the “Invasive Lite” group, responsible for clearing invasive lamium, which was spreading as a ground cover on the forest floor.

Grace, in turn, headed up the “Invasive Extreme” group, whose focus was to move a pile of composted soil to the site via wheelbarrow, rake up the soil, and remove tangled ivy vines.

All together, we managed to clear 1,080 L of invasive plants and move over 40 wheelbarrows of soil! We then spread out leaves as a mulch over the soil.

We were honoured to have two City of Vancouver Councillors out for the event – Councillor Sean Orr & Councillor Rebecca Bligh. They both had a chance to see and care for the beautiful Champlain Heights Trails for the first time!

Many thanks to our amazing volunteers for your help: Abhishree, Andrea, Anjana, Annette, Becky, Cole, Connie G, Connie H, Daniel, Elloise, Fitnat, Grace, Janet, Jeannine, Jenny, Kiki, Laura, Liam, Maile, Moira, Parker, Rebecca, Sean, Veronika, Virginia, Wenhan, Westley and Yohann.
