24 amazing volunteers (7 for the first time) gathered at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden for our monthly Invasive Pull today!
After a quick stretch, we headed down the Red Alder Trail to our “base camp” beside the playground. Following a safety talk, we split into two groups.
The first group, led by Free the Fern board director, Cole, focused on removing Himalayan blackberry.

While the second group, led by Free the Fern Executive Director, Grace, focused on removing invasive lamium (with a bit of periwinkle and herb Robert thrown in for good measure).

All together, we managed to clear 1,440 L of invasive plants from the trail! We also enjoyed chatting & connecting.
Part way through, we took a break to enjoy some fresh sliced watermelon, juice, and a variety of snacks.

Everyone was in great spirits when we packed up the base camp and brought all our green bins, wagons and wheelbarrow, back to store away.
Thanks so much to our amazing volunteers: Andrea, Anthea, Charmaine, Chloe, Cole, Connie G., Ellie, Gary, Genevieve, Gloria, Grace, Greg, Janet, Jeannine, Jenny, Jeff, Joe (set-up), Juliet, Maria, Sage, Tara, and Tuesday.
See you at our next monthly pull on June 6, before our summer break!
