Bannock & Books

Today, an event was held to celebrate the opening of the Reconciliation Library at the Douglas Fir Teaching Garden.

The reconciliation library was planned and built by local artist and nurse, Kiki Nombrado

Musquem artist Nova Wolf painted the doors of the library with a design featuring two ravens and an eagle. Nova offered the community a drumming welcome.

Elder Marge Wylie was also at the event offering fresh made bannock & jam.

Nadine Spence joined shared her story of honouring her grandmothers.

Representatives from the Vancouver Public Library were present to share book recommendations by Indigenous authors.

Community members, including Park Board nominee Sacia Burton , gathered to celebrate with us.

Thank you to the BC Nurses Union and Neighbourhood Small Grants for providing funding to make this project possible.
