Eco-Arts Festival – June 28, 2025

We were excited to host our first ever Eco-Arts Festival on June 28, 2025 from 10am-2pm!

The event was held beneath the trees in the beautiful Douglas Fir Teaching Garden (east of 3530 Swansacre, Vancouver).

We partnered with 8 local eco-artists, who use plants or upcycled materials to create art. At the event, each artist set up a table and welcomed community members of all ages and ablities to create art. Art included braiding, weaving, printmaking, papermaking, and more!

🌿Christi York @york_christi created a cast leaf sculpture with recycled paper pulp

🌿Edward Juan @edjuandraws used plant-based ink pigment on paper to create monotype prints

🌿Erica Mulder @bramble.threads made stars from invasive ivy

🌿Joe Boyd @joeboydster wove baskets using invasive ivy

🌿Joshua Ralph @invasive_art_initiative made salmon out of invasive plants

🌿Loriann Bird @earthandcompany explored wild, native and medicinal plants through art illustrations, painting and plant prints

🌿Lorna Moffat @lornamoffattaylor braided upcycled fabric to create a “braiding community” art piece (which is now displayed at the Champlain Heights Community Centre)

🌿Nickie Lewis @thewizardsmakery wove together cedar branches to create a heart or basket

Our Elder in Residence, Marge Wylie of the Tl’azt’ten nation, along with her friend Coreen Stadel, were also on hand sharing bannock & homemade jam.

Free art supplies, donated from the community, were also displayed on a table, free to take and create.

Unfortunately, the Coastal Wolf Pack were not able to do their scheduled performance due to a family medical emergency.

This event was planned by our Executive Director, Grace Nombrado, along with our Artist Liaison, Joshua Ralph, with support from our board of directors. On the day of our event, 9 dedicated volunteers helped with set-up and clean-up: Barbara, Catherine, Ellie, Erin, Grace, Jeannine, Joshua, Kiki, Sylvia, and Tom.

Funding support was provided from TD Park People Grants, Neighbourhood Matching Fund, Communities & Artists Shifting Cultures Grant, & Community Placemaking Fund.
