EYA Free Plants!

On April 24, 2022, Free the Fern was grateful to receive 34 plants generously donated to us by the Environmental Youth Alliance (EYA).

The Environmental Youth Alliance is a registered charity that supports BIPOC youth by providing them free land-based education and paid employment-training in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The youth have a greenhouse in the Strathcona Community Garden, where they grow hundreds of native plants from seed.

Every spring the EYA generously donates hundreds of native plants they have grown to east Vancouver community groups and Indigenous groups. This year they had a record number of groups (54) request free plants.

Free the Fern is very grateful for the donation of the plants, which include: salal, sword & deer fern, oval-leaf blueberry, red columbine, red flowering currant, Canada goldenrod, and big leaf lupine. These will be planted on Wednesday in our 5 stewardship areas along the Red Alder trail.
