Invasive Plant Mapping

I am excited to share that we have 19 volunteers, including 16 student volunteers from BCIT Ecological Restoration Program, signed up to volunteer from December 27-29 with our Invasive Plant Mapping project.

Volunteers will be working along a portion of the Red Alder Trail to collect data on number, species, and percentage cover of invasive plants. They will also be recording how many trees are threatened by climbing ivy. All this data will be compiled to create an Invasive Plant Map. This map will provide data on current and emerging invasive species, and inform our future stewardship work (invasive removal and native planting). In addition, this data could be very useful when applying for future grants for Free the Fern projects.

I look forward to meeting many of these BCIT student volunteers and working with them to learn more about our Red Alder Trail area.

We are still open to having more volunteers. If you are interested, please fill in our volunteer sign-up form here.
