That is a lot of weeds!

Between January 1, 2022 and April 21, 2022:

  • 21 people have volunteered with Free the Fern
  • Volunteers have spent 230 hours pulling invasive weeds, raking leaves, replanting native plants, moving leaf mulch, and hosting events.
  • Together, we have filled 124 city green bins with invasive weeds, for a total of 35,460L or 12.5 tons removed.
  • Invasive weeds have included: English ivy (48%), Himalayan blackberry (39%), lamium (5%), Italian arum (4%), common periwinkle (2%), English holly (1%), and others (2%).
  • At only 4 months into the year, we have already removed the equivalent of 53% of the invasives last year. So, we are on target to exceed last years numbers (66,420 L or 23.5 tons of invasive weeds removed).

We look forward to following up our removal efforts with spring and fall native planting!
